I hope I'm not mis-speaking here!...And I don't mean to offend If I do.

But Nothing is more frustrating (well I guess there really is now that I think about it), than to follow a thread that some very kind people have helped on...only to find it open and never resolved or even updated! The OP doesn't even have the consideration to let others know how their time and effort might have helped or not.

I have learned so much here, and people really want to help, particularly to those less knowledgeable and new to outboards and boating.

Please, if you start a thread....update with what the resolution is or even lack of resolution. At least update with something. There are others watching and the info may help them in some way. Its a " Pay it forward" type of thing.

Thanks

I've learned to live with it over the years and at times expect it. You will find that some get their answers and are never heard from again too. I don't take it personally.

The ones that get me are the replies like, I can't help but some one will. What's the point in that? I myself have replied that I don't know the answer but I do have a suggestion or a lead.

You hit the nail on the head !! That's been of my biggest gripes about these forums. You don't know if you helped the guy or not.

It's a lack of understanding and/or appreciation for the true spirit of this forum. It's about learning from one another. boobie you've helped so many as others have as well. Some just use the forum for a quick fix and I guess that's alright but a little feed back is helpful to us all. Rick.

I couldn't agree more (updating threads). I appreciate seeing how things turned out to maybe help me from going on a wild goose chase.

Agree 100%, but it is likely a lost cause. Most do wrap up their threads satisfactorily, but a small group are just after quick and free advice.
They are the ones :
1) Whose "manual is in the mail, but can anyone tell me...."
2) Who after 15 minutes without a response will post "Anyone?"
3) Who will argue over the advice they get, even with the likes of FR or Joe Reeves, because their friend (who often caused the problem in the first place) says....
4) For whom coming back to report success is just too much trouble.
5) Who can't seem to grasp that the more information they provide will help us to help them faster and more accurately. (one thing I would love to see would be the repair forums somehow add a form that has to be part of your first post when looking for help. Would include mandatory fields: make, model, HP, brief description of problem, whether it is a new problem or witrh a used motor purchase arrived with the issue....etc. Sometimes we are 5 posts in before any real clue is dropped. )

The list could continue.... :)

Great suggestion Tim Frank, any one else agree? How can this suggestion be implemented? Do we need a vote? Can a moderator start this? Just my 2 cents...
