Re: Pleasurecraft lifter question
Thanks for the help so far, I'll do my best to accurately explain what is going on. The tune up and oil change were both done in October (boat used all winter, doesn't sit). Both the oil pressure and temp were fine even when the noise occurred. As far as driveability issues I'm not 100% sure as I quickly lowered the rpms and docked. Low rpms seemed fine driving but not sure about high rpms because I lowered the rpms myself.
The noise first occurred at a high rpm under a load and stayed at low idle, load or no. But the noise isn't constant, I'll explain with the diagnostics.
As far as diagnostics I did the following: I let the engine cool down and sit over night, the next day I started it up and didn't hear anything. I brought the rpms up (no load) and still didn't hear anything. After a couple minutes of high Rpms the noise started again, real quiet for a split second then shot up to a loud fast tap tap tap. I lowered the rpms and the noise stayed in time with the engine and I looked around. It is only on one side (stbd) and almost sounds like a rocker arm needs adjusting.
Thats about it, if it were constant I would just believe it were a rocker arm adjustment or a push rod but this seems more like a lifter to me as it goes away. However, the first thing I will be pulling off is the rocker arm cover anyway but I still believe it to be a lifter. Besides, even if it were a rocker adjustment I would still be asking the same question : )
I hope this helps explain. I have done lifters before I just never really touch Ford engines, and on the rare occasion that I do they are mercs so that is why I'm a little hesitant. Thanks again for the help so far.
