1972 65 Hspr. Evinrude. Having trouble with the plug which joins the electrical connections in the motor to the connections outside of the motor. At times it works and other times the connection fails, even though it's clamped. Any suggestions.

Thanks,
Skip

Re: Plug Connection

Hi Skip. Are you saying that at times you have to go back and "wiggle" the connection to get the engine running? I'm asking cause I'm not sure what you mean by "fails".

Assuming that you have to shake it, take it apart and look at the prongs and holes. Sometimes corrosion can make the contacts not make up real good. If you have corrosion, you can take a small roll of crokus cloth and clean the holes out and clean the prongs up.

Does it ever quit when running or is it just usually at startup?

Re: Plug Connection

Wiggling the connection doesn't help. Used an electonic cleaner on it, and that worked for a time, then nothing. Right now it's working but it's not in the water, and I wouldn't take a chance on it. Never quits after it's running. Will use small roll of crokus cloth to clean holes and prongs. That's a good idea.
Thanks,
Skip
