I chimed in a few weeks ago and had asked about running 100:1 fuel mix to solve fouling problem. As per your suggestions, I changed back to 50:1 and switched to a synth oil (Penzoil Marine was all I could find) and opened the plug gap to 35.

Whoaaaa, What a Difference!

I am not fouling plugs, the engine idles better and sounds better with the synth oil and new gap. As for the hard starting I was experiencing, I put a new cranking battery in and now the motor starts on the first turn of the key everytime! Darned thing starts better than my car!

Thanks for your assistance, your advice was brilliant... As I stated before I am no mechanic and your advice gave me the opportunity to fix the motor without sending it back to the shop!

Thank You! Keep up the great work...it is appreciated!

Well bro I'm glad your problem was fixed. It's nice to hear problems disappearing instead of always appearing! LOL :D

Yep, Those synthetics are the way to go! Next time you change the lower unit oil put synthetic gear lube in there too!

Did you go to a straight synthetic or did you use the Penzoil blended oil, I just put a new powerhead on and was thinking of using Amzol at 100/1 but I am told the blend is the way to go. I have a 60 Johnson on a flat boat. The spark plug gap is intresting. What type of motor are you using it in?
