Can plug fouling/failure be related to improper indexing on the ficht ram?

I gapped mine at 0.030" and indexed at the pin or maximum 45' after the pin (3 to 6 o' clock) {PORT SIDE}. On the other side I indexed to the pin or 45' BEFORE the pin (6 to 9 o' clock). Or should this be 45' AFTER the pin (9 to 12 o'clock).

My new plugs functioned great for one hour. Then one of the plugs started ton miss and engine doesn't come to the max rpm anymore. Can this be related to my improper indexing as described abobve???

Johan,

I am combining your two posts for less confusion. Mod1.

Johan de Konink
Cadet
Member # 42681

posted June 13, 2004 11:32 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 175 ficht ram (2000 ENGINE).

My temp sensor on the port side is broken. I currently am awaiting the new one. The engine gives a priority B check engine warning, but the engine still functions.

A new set of plugs lasted 1 hour in this condition. A cleaned set also, one hour today. After that it begins to run on 5 cilinders and won't come above 4000 rpm.

Can this problem be linked to the failing temp sensor on the port side??

--------------------
Johan

45 degrees before or after the pin. It doesn't make a difference. I have a pdf on plug indexing. Just email me at jdekonink@deloitte.nl and I can send it to you.

My problem was related to a defect EEM/ECU on my engine. I sent it to DFI for a repair. Never had a problem since. The code setting wasn't related to a defect temperature sensor but to a defect in the computer.

Which cylinder is fouling? perhaps you have a leaking diaphragm on the lift pump or oil pump.

Here is a link about indexing the plugs:

http://www.boatsetup.com/PlgIndexing.html

What number sparkplugs are you using and what is the complete model number on your motor?
