Picked up an old ‘71 20hp to play with and found a broken plug wire. I patched it together enough to verify it will run, but will regular merc 7” and 9” plug wires for older models work?

The coil side of these look like a U shaped electrode soldered as a cap over the wire.

I looked up the plug wires from a '75 Merc 20. https://www.crowleymarine.com/mercu...coil-stator-and-switch-box-group-no-15?ref=28

parts for a '71 were not listed.

Those plug wires look to be push in to the coil, with spark plug boots and spring on the other end. The spring and boots are easy to buy and install. The push in part is harder to get. I just looked at spark plug wires from my Merc V6, with ADI ignition. They are only 6" long, but look like they will fit, if longer. A local Merc dealer should have some. Maybe you could match it up.

I found a reference that sierra 18-5227-1 would work, but can’t find a solid chart that shows it. In looking at them, they have nuns that look like they might be designed to fit both, just hoping to verify before I order.
I see Sierra makes a kit that has all the parts to make 6 of them, I was hoping for a pre-made solution

Correction, it does look like 18-5227 and 18-5228 cross reference to the original wire kit 84-813715A1.
