Plug wires

Hello, I have an '84 yamaha 200AETO. Over the years the plug wire connectors have become loose and vibrate off the plugs. I pushed them on tight and installed cable ties around the boots and plugs to keep them snug. My question is, can the plug wires be replaced without replacing the coils? I see a rubber boot on the end that attaches to the coil but I didn't attempt to remove the wire. What are my options?

Re: Plug wires

the wire ends are replaceable. buy a set of boots and clips.
or change over to the resistor style caps and thread them in.
the wire is not removable from the coil normally.

Re: Plug wires

Thanks Rodbolt for the advice. I suppose the boots and clips are available at any Yamaha dealer. Are there any tricks to removing the old and installing the new, or is it "so easy, a caveman could do it"?

Re: Plug wires

If you try MSD, Moroso, or Taylor sites and or go to NAPA they would have the piece's you need. The pieces are specific to the size of wires and plug ends

You say that you have a 1984 200AETO motor. I believe that is a misprint. Can you look at your motor and verify that model.

Re: Plug wires

Bruce, thanks for citing a potential misprint of my model#. I will check the number when I go back to the marina next week. I listed it from memory but I thought it was right. What makes you think it should be something else? It is an old motor and I got it used in '93. It is possible that it had part changes before I got it and the number plate is from something else.
