Plugging holes in transom

I'm doing away with the starboard side of the swim deck and have eight of these holes to patch, they had 2" lag bolts run into them BTW. I'm thinking of using wooden dowels coated with epoxy tapped into the holes and leaving them slightly recessed to make room for a final cosmetic repair. Any thoughts?

This ^^^ is true. What is the "Mess" to the side of the holes? It appears to be Silicone. If so, You need to re-do that as well. It will allow water penetration into the transom. 3M 4200 is the sealant of choice.

What method do you use to "force" the PB into the holes? Once I add chopped strand to the mix, I have trouble getting it to push into holes.

That "mess" to the right is where someone ran the wiring for a humminbird tranducer and temp probe, from the inside that hole appears to be at least an inch in diameter  Not shown is another hole of that size for the speed sensor :facepalm:

The boat had a home made kicker mount on the swim platform so I've removed that half of the platform and restoring the transom to install an adjustable mount. I don't think that they missed any opportunities to drill a hole lol

I would definetly remove, inspect and repair any and all of the PO's previous installations. Your transom must be sealed from any and all water intrusion possibilities.

You really should grind and glass those repairs ..

They are so close together that no matter what you do your going to finish the same area around them.

Do a little bit of 3" grinding and glassing with mat..sand fair.

If you want a gel finish..then let us know :) ..

YD.
