I'm replacing the 4.3 and my block arrived with a nice warning tag that I needed to block off the dipstick hole if not using it. Well, I'm not using it.

I purchased a 3/8" freeze plug from Napa (Part #: SEP 3812185) and installed it with a little Permatex #3 Aviation on the sides. I used a flat rod (actually the mounting rod that goes between the trim rams on the outdrive) to hammer it in flush. Then I used a 6mm socket on an extension to recess it.

Is this sufficient, or do I need to add some RTV over the top?

your fine, however I would paint the motor before you install it, then hose it down with fluid film after.

the black "primer/paint" stuff they spray the motor with really sucks as a marine coating.
