Ok guys, my '67 Chris Craft is about to arrive in my driveway any day now to start working on. I'm going to start right away with the decking, and everything underneath it. I think I've got everything figured out, but know little about boat plumbing. I am a home contractor, so I know how to do it, but what components are needed for a full fresh water and waste system?

So far, the boat has a hand pump in the head to pump water out of the lake for the sink, and there is no toilet, or any holding tanks. Galley faucets currently run off water hookup only, I want everything to work off of a holding tank system, and be able to hook up water at the dockside as well.

What size holding tanks should I be shopping for?
What kind of pump should I be using for fresh water and how is it installed?
What connections should be used for a waste pump out and how does that work?
Is it acceptable to direct gray water right out the boat? Or does it have to be stored on board also?

I've looked through many catalogs online and have found all sorts of components that may or may not be necessary, like pressure regulators, fancy connections, etc. Any tips or a complete list of what I should be looking for would be awesome. Space isn't a huge factor, there is tons of room under the decks, about 2 and a half feet high by 9 feet wide by 14 feet long in the bilge.

In the end, I'm looking for the most economical yet functional solution. Something that hopefully doesn't smell bad when it's done :D

Re: Plumbing Advice

What is he size and model of boat?

I would honestly suggest you break this into two different project threads IMHO.

There are some considerations and this will run on forever bouncing between the two. These are really two completely different and relatively unrelated projects.

It's a 28' Futura. I was hoping somebody could give me a quick boat plumbing 101 as I can't seem to find any relevant information on the net aside from manufacturers trying to sell their products.

I do know the rules have changed since 1967. I bet if you find a surveyor in your area he/she will know the ropes of the right way.

Re: Plumbing Advice

Thanks Bob, sadly I have a very limited amount of money, and spending a couple hundred dollars to have somebody give advice just isn't a possibility. I'm hoping to get all plumbing installed for under 600 dollars.
