Plumbing question

I am putting a washer and dryer in a closet on the second floor of my home. Will install a stand pipe for washer and floor drain instead of a washer pan. Plan on using 2" pvc through to basement and tie into a 3" main pipe. I want to be sure that the floor drain trap does not dry up letting gas into the house. Can I join the floor drain and stand with a Y in the closet floor, and install the trap in the basement? That way both the stand pipe and floor drain will be protected by a common trap. There will be no other fixtures on this drain. The drain will also be vented through the roof.

Is this OK with the UPC?

Mark.

Re: Plumbing question

Sounds good to me. It would be like the two drains in the kitchen sink. One compartment Y's into the other drain before the trap. Not sure about the legality, but it should be even if it is not strict code.

Besides, who's to know? ;)

Re: Plumbing question

Boomyal,

Thanks for the reminder about dual kitchen sink setups. I had a plumber suggest running the line into a sink trap on the lower level, but that is not practical.

Well, you know what project I will be doing this weekend.
