As stated in my other topic, Iam redoing a 69 Starcraft Falcon.

I plan on using some 3/4" ply for the flooring...plan on doing it with two seperate sheets with a seem almost in the middle of the floor.

Is Marine grade ply really needed? 3/4 really isnt easy to rot out and the boat is not going to be in the water for any long periods of time.

Also, I build a lot of countertops through my cabinet makers job. I plan on doing the carpet the same way as I would do a laminate counter top.

I was thinking of just dry fiiting everything and then spraying the ply and carpet with regular contact cement.
Its applied very evenly out of a spray gun. Then I would pull the access around the edges and using some staples to hold tight.

I was concerned about the hold the contact cement would have if the ply ended up getting soaked.

Has anyone done flooring this way.

The carpet is just grey outdoor short from Home Depot.

Thanks

Re: Plywood Flooring Questions

3/4 is plenty heavy and depending on the span and available supports 1/2 will do the job fine. Use an exterior grade and coat the sheets with epoxy to seal them up.

Many people have used spray on bed liner in lue of carpet since it never holds water. There is also an alternative of a rubberized sheet coating that can be applied as a floor surface.

If you use and staples make sure they are stainless steel ones.

my GOD, Bob you and i agree on this. if the span is over 16 inches, put some kind of support under it, i hate carpet, it's not in my boats or my home, it is the nastiest stuff on earth. as Bob said, some uv resistant bedlliner, or some non skid paint. lowes has a non sikd in light grey & dark grey, that i have use over the last 5 years, never a complaint, if it scuffs, just touch up. i still don't have a rotting floor.
