I have a 1997 Wellcraft eclipse 20' and need to replace sundeck structure etc. I have noticed a "white in color" composite structure material, that interior parts are made with. What is that stuff, and has anyone used it v/s plywood? Also where could I find an I/O engine cowl? thanks

Re: Plywood substitute

There are many members here that have made I/O cowls with thinner plywood and fiberglass. Without seeing the material in a photo I have no idea of what it is. Is it fiberglass coated?

The white stuff is most likely UHMWPE, its good for smaller items, but is very heavy and has little strength.

You're probably thinking of "Starboard", which (I think) is the brand name of the material ondarvr mentioned.
It's a plastic composite and heavy compared to plywood. It's so slippery that a lot of adhesives won't stick to it.

Re: Plywood substitute

i built an aluminum frame and attached plywood to it, then padded and covered with vinyl. 1/2 inch ply on top, 1/4 on sides.
