Is there an after market point conversion kit for 73 9.8 mercurys?

No, it's a high voltage grd. at the points, what seem to be the problem

No problem except that replacement point are expensive and a one time purchase of a conversion kit would be more economical.Old mercs wants 90.00 for a set of those things and its been my experience that you have to change them every couple of years.

Well, the fact is, there is no change over kits. Do you replace the condensers when you replace the points? The points normally last a LOT longer than that.

Have never replaced the condenser,only the points when it would not start.

Replace the cendenser this time and you may not have to replace the points again for many years.
