Hello all, not been on for an age.
I'm in the process of rebuilding an 18hp 'rude and I've a couple of questions.
What should the points gap be?
With my dad's help we've stripped off the lower leg to replace the impeller and disconnected the gear change linkage about halfway down the leg via a small cover on the starboard side, was this a bad move? I only ask because I've gone through a few posts and they all suggest disconnecting somwhere below the carb, though non of these posts were specific to the 18hp

thanks in advance

Lee

Re: points gap

Point gap is .020". You don't state the year for your motor, but you disconnected the shift linkage in the proper place.

Be careful when reconnecting that the groove in the shift rod lines up with the bolt. The bolt slides in that groove and that's what positions the shift rod properly.
