What have you captains found to be the best wax on your gelcoat, and do you use the same wax for the bottom of the boat?
TRAUMAGAS

I've used Star Bright as well...I've also had good results with McGuire's... However, my boat was badly oxidized and I thought I was screwed...but my marine tech. buddy, Garth, turned me onto this product that they use to spruce up their Bajas. I figured, "Hey, if it's good enough for a Baja...then it's good enough for my Beachcraft." This stuff is called "POWER BUFF" and I believe it's mfg'd. by Aqua Mate. (1-800-453-7627). For those of you with mild to semi-serious gel coat oxidation...I'd sure recommend giving this stuff a try. One gallon cost me approx. $20 and I have enough to buff out another 6 boats! One point of caution though...you do need to apply a good coat of UV protection wax afterwards.

Walt

A while back someone here on the board recommended using orange Go-Jo hand cleaner with pumice for removing oxidation from gelcoat. I don't if all orange Go-Jo has pumice or not but I intend to try it this next spring. Can't hurt anything. As for wax, Meguiares Mirrowglaze paste wax is bullett-proof. That's the stuff a lot of fiberglass boat mfg's use for the release agent on their molds.

c/6

hooty

StarBrite works great to get the oxidation off,if you use it as a polish, using light presure.
Once you get it lookin purdy ,tho, you'll need to finish with Mother's or Maquire's pure Carnuba paste. It only lasts abt a year, but it sure looks good in the meantime.
HOOTY..Dont do it. The Orange Go-Jo does have grit in it, an will leave your hull covered with buffer swirls. It's too coarse.
If you need rubbing compound, start with something much finer to see how it does.
If it cuts it, go no further. You'll need the finer stuff anyway,as you'll definately need to rub out swirl from heavier stuff.
Again, once it's as goood as you can get it, cover it with a paste wax for durabilty.
