As in the steps to repair a panel ???.........Ayuh,..... It's Pretty Close to the same.....
For Mixing ??..... No,.. Totally Different........

The Problem with Mail Order Polyester resin is it's listed as a Hazardous Material.......
The Shipping will Kill the deal........
Epoxy Doesn't have this Problem..........

I dont know if you have a Home Depot near you but they sell epoxy and polyester resin pretty reasonable. Just a thought.

Re: polyester resin

AM, Buy the poly resin locally. It is about $15-16/gal around here. For your purposes it is plenty strong IMO. Mix it according to the directions on the resin can(usually +-12 drops hardener/1 oz resin). Use it liberally with plenty of cloth for lateral strength. Make sure everying is dry and clean and sanded with course paper before bonding structural elements. Finer sanding for finish elements of course. if you have a need to create a high strength bond (patch a hole in the hull, for example, you might want to consider using epoxy. You can bond poly resin to cured epoxy if you sand the cured epoxy well and wipe with acetone.

Re: polyester resin

am,were do you live at?Ply resin will work fine.Alot of people don't like it due to the hazard of using it.Know what you are using before doing so.
Last boat that I built,I used ply resin for the hole job,2 weeks ago,I was rear ended,my boat was behine me,it took a direct hit to the motor, pushing the boat up 6' on the trailer, stopping at my tailgate.Good thing, the transom held up great.Ply resin with 2 sheets of treated plywood makes it up!Alot was said about both ply resin and treated wood as no good,my boat past the test! Can others say the same!
