This is my first post, please go easy on me. I studied this and other forums quite extensively to learn about repainting my 1986 runabout. After considering the options I settled on a two part polyurethane paint with a roll and tip application instead of spraying (I don't own a compressor etc.). The end result is a beautifully durable finish in nice shiny red, but with extremely excessive orange peel and drip tears everywhere. I suspect the paint was too thick or the weather too cold (approx. 70 degrees outside). Anyway, I thought about sanding the whole thing down and starting again. At least I have a red basecoat. Is that a good idea?

The question is this, can I repaint the topcoat with a pre-mixed polyurethane paint or a clearcoat? Is there such a product on the market? I will likely be renting a spray setup for this to avoid getting the same bad result. Any advice will be greatly appreciated...thanks!

Goose sand it starting with 600-800 grit paper working up to about 1200 grit then buff it to perfection :D. The idea here isnt to remove all the paint just smooth out the orange peel and runs and then polish the heck out of it .
