Pontoon Boat Charters?

I recently bought a 30' Suntracker Pontoon, I was considering using it to bring people out for charters in Shark River Bay N.J. Nothing crazy, sunset cruises, picnics, etc. (only in the bay - no ocean). Does anyone know of any special regulations concerning pontoon boats, when it comes to a charter situation?

I can't say for sure in your area, but we took a fishing charter in Chincoteague VA on a pontoon and there are dozens of them for fishing and sightseeing in and around Assateague and Chincteague. The one we were on had an enclosure with a head, like the Tracker Party Barges. My friend has a 32' PB with an I/O, very nice rig.

Start calling local agencies to find out what you need to do, maybe the coast gaurd but I would imagine you would need a captains liceance and insurance at the very least, probly a buisness liceance also.

I am sure that is different in every area and all you will get here is opinions so call the actualy agancy in charge of that and you are in Jersey so I'm sure you can just grease some palms and get it done.

I can say in my state (likely everywhere), you definately need a Captain license and that is only good for six paying clients (excludes crew) on an uninpected passager vessel. For more than that, you'll need a Master's license and have your boat inspected. You'll also may want to create an LLC and get a new insurance policy because charging for this service puts you in a different ball game with liability.

Best wishes with this.
