I have a 2001; 20 ft. Pontoon boat with a 70hp Johnson O/B.
Occasionally I notice the rpms increase the engine winds and I do not have much forward momentum. It seems to happen more when at near top speed. I thought I maybe spinng the prop but Im beginning to think this could be a cavitation problem. Any thought on this matter, would it hurt to try a Dol-fin type product?

Re: pontoon cavitation

Tiki

From a dead stop, when you hit the throttle all the way, does it take off fine without reving the engine too high? Is this a problem that just started? Does it seem to happen more in choppy waters? Does it do it more when you turn one way or the other at high speed? Where is the cavitation plate in relation to your logs? Where is the waterline on your logs(Halfway, Ect) If you move weight(People to the rear), does it help? What pitch and brand prop are you running? Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to get a feel for what's going on... I have a 91' 70HP rude on my toon...
