My buddy just bought his first pontoon . It is a fisher 24' with a 90 hp. The top of his left log is sitting about 1" above water aft . Do these actually take a charge of air or are the air stems strictly for testing ?? I have an old Landua with foam filled so I have never dealt with this . I have checked past threads and couldn't come up with " definite answer " . Figured best to come out and ask directly instead of misinforming my friend !..
thanks for your expertise fellas !

The air stems are for testing and to equalize the pressure between the pontoons and the atmosphere. Your buddy has a serious toon leak.

The good news is a competent aluminum welder can likely find and repair the leak(s) at a reasonable cost. Also, not to be a (see below), but the presence of foam in your toons doesn't render them immune to leaks. In fact, if they do develop leaks the foam presents an even greater problem by disguising the symptoms until it becomes waterlogged and must be removed. Welcome aboard.

Also, read the first thread in this section before putting any air a toon.

I must be reading this wrong, Are you saying you need air in your toons to make it float higher in the water.

If the tube only has and inch exposed it has a really big leak that needs fixxed and be very careful with air in the tubes, I was there when the tube in the sticky let go and it is a very very load scary sound.

For the record air in a toon doesn't make it float any better, the only way to increas bouyance is to reduce the weight of the boat or make the tubes larger, air in the tubes does neither.
