Pontoon trailer and tires

I have an 18' toon and the trailer has these tiny wheels under the frame. I do not feel like its the type of trailer I would take on a long haul. I don't know what you call this type of trailer but wonder if there is anything I could do to put more rubber on the road. It's a continental trailer.

Do you have a narrow frame trailer between the pontoon or is your tire under the pontoon?

I guess you would say the tires are under the pontoons. Here is an picture of the trailer.

Believe it or not your trailer is suitable for highway travel. Thanks for the picture. Pontoon boats are not very heavy and the low profile tires allow the boat to sit lower on the trailer. Make sure your tire pressure and wheel bearing are good and your tires are free of dryrot. then you can lake the long vacation you wish. I recomend carrying a spare tire. Avoid travel during high winds with any pontoon boat if possible. You are more prone to turbulance than weight becoming an issue with those tires.

No need to worry. Those 20.5x8x10" are the perfect tires for a pontoon trailer and you can get them in load ratings up to 1650 Lbs.
I still have the original tires on my 1993 trailer (although I don't recommend anyone run them this long)which is a testament of the reliability of these tires. Just make sure that you always keep them inflated to the maximum PSI that is stamped on the sidewall.

I agree with above, but if you want more rubber on the road, add a second axle.

Over sizing is NOT ALWAYS necessary. If the trailer is rated to carry the fully loaded boat...........Enjoy what you have.

However. Check the trailer capacity label. Take the boat & trailer loaded for a trip to a set of weighing scales. Then bring back just the trailer..........You can figure out if you are O K as a loaded setup. Little over weighted boat ? higher capacity tires very often do the job perfectly.

You may want to look and see what load range the present tires are especially if you just got the trailer. People tend to get to small of a load range when replacing tires, I ran into that when I bought mine last year.

Your tires were designed for pontoon use. The whole reason to use low profile 10" tires is to get the frame lower to the ground. That allows you to launch your boat in shallower water, as so many ramps are too shallow for many boats.

My new pontoon boat came with 13" tires, and it requires a very, very deep boat ramp for launching. Fortunately, our lake is stable and our state owned ramps are deep. Many Texans are not so fortunate, with continued droughts and relatively shallow lakes.

Yea I realize it make launching easier and it does do that. They just look like toy wheels and tires under there. Not that I've had any problems with them just figured I would ask. Thanks for all the replies I feel better. But I will check the load rating and get a spare. The toon is at a slip most of the time but sometimes I'd like to take it somewhere for the week end.
