Yes another pontoon boat in saltwater - Corrosion problem.

I have a 24' Bently pontoon I use exclusively in Saltwater. I put a lot of effort into preping the boat for saltwater.
(Cleaned, etched, epoxied and bottom painted ea toon).

The first 5 years in the water everything was working perfectly. Last year I started to see corrosion on the tops of the toons, the epoxy was flaking up with corrosion underneath. So I added zincs to the brackets at the rear of ea pontoon.

The boat is in saltwater for a week then I trailer it out and thoroughly wash it down. Boat sits on its trailer most of the time in salt air.

I was just wondering:
a. Since the corrosion is only on the "Top" of the toons (none at the water line or lower). Is the salt air causing this problem? If so is there anyway to stop it?
b. Would you add zincs to the front of the toons? My toons have a small keel I could add them to.
c. Should I just forgettaboutit, chalk it up to pontoons in saltwater and have another margarita ???

Will

P.S. All suggestions welcomed !!!

Likely C....if the air is causing this, I don't think zinc anodes will stop it. Zinc annodes work in water because the water works as a conductor.

Does it look like the corrosion is happening UNDER the epoxy, or only BECAUSE the epoxy is coming off and the metal is starting to corrode? If the later, than perhaps the epoxy worked and just needs a re-treatment.

Good luck....saltwater is such a harsh environment.

have the toon tubes media blasted and re-epoxied, fire up the blender and have another margarita....

make sure your zinc's are clean, replace when half worn. if you are in a marina, you will need more zinc's
