Pontoons

Where can a guy get pontoons, just the pontoons. I want to make my own fishing platform for the small lakes around MT. Any ideas

Unless want to get into a huge project I think I would look for an already built toon, it will probably save you money and alot of work to buy a complete boat.

If you get just tubes you will need crossmembers, deck, carpet, rails, wireing, console, motor pan ect ect ect so by the time you are done you will have more into it that oyu could have gotten a built boat for.

All i really want to do is build the platform. Only going to have an electric trollling motor on it. And carpet. Thats about it.

I'd look on craigslist for a beater toon - Would save you a lot of work & money.

The original pontoons were made from leftover pipe. Maybe you could scratch up some surplus oil pipeline in your area to put something together. Mfrs. stuck with the round design because it is easier/cheaper to manufacture, plus it is now tradition, although there are better designs available.

The modern design now (at least in China) is industrial polypropylene pipe. See the post by Bataan in this thread:

Just don't use plastic barrels. They never seem to hold together for long and there are too many floating around loose out there now.

Check your local marine mechanics, dealers and CL. You should be able to find a derelict pontoon for next to nothing.
