I have a 1990 Evinrude 115 HP V4. took it out last weekend for the first time this year. The boat started up pretty well and ran pretty well, however it would not idle. Cut off badly whenever I tried to idle. Other symptoms observed include a lot of smoke at start up; it skips a little when trying to idle, each skip is accompanied by a puff of smoke in the exhaust; once I got it going at speed and then idled, it would idle fine for a few minutes then start cutting off.
The manual suggests several possibilities in the troubleshooting guide. Any suggestions on the most likely cause? I have a new priming bulb and fuel line from the bulkhead. I do plan to replace the fuel line from the bulkhead to the tank. I also plan to pull the pickup tube out of the tank and clean or replace it.
