I just finished tuning up a 1957 10Hp Johnson. New pump, coils, points, condensers, plugs, and carb overhaul.
Took a 1000 pulls to get it started. Finally started in full throttle in forward gear. Adjusted the rich and lean on carb to have it running very smooth. Still have to start in full throttle in gear, though. The biggest problem is that the power in full throttle is like a 5HP. Runs smooth but poor power.
I checked to make sure there was a spark from both plugs before I put it into the water. Both plugs gaped at .03. The points were adjusted using the OHM meter technique. I checked the coils and condensers with OHM meter before installation.
Doesn't have a fuel issue because it can run forever at high speed. No stuttering or shaking.
I give up. Where do I start? Is it my point adjustments? I have put a feeler gauge through the opening in the flywheel just to see how they are gaped. Both are around the .02 stamped on the flywheel. Compression? I did put finger over opening when plugs were out. Both felt the same as far as suction and pressure.
Thanks for any ideas.
