Came in to get on iboats and started clearing pop-up ads and there was 45, no less, count them, 45. Did a search and found some info on here recommended by a couple of members, installed them and so far so good, no pop-ups. I think they mostly got in from my 8 year old boy going to game sites on the net. Hope that stops the mess. :mad:

Hello
I use spybot and spywareblaster and although I have to update every week,the buggers stay off my screen.The problem is not so much the popups; it is the fact that these programs actively scan your computer use and file info about you,which is sold to the highest bidder.
Rolmops.

Re: pop-up ads

That Google toolbar tracks what sites you visit (i.e. spyware) Who knows what other information they are gathering. That's why I won't use it.
I really like Google, and almost installed the toolbar, but when it asked about sharing what sites you visit etc... I stopped and didn't install. It went to the recycle bin!

I use Zone Alarm Pro. Stops all adware, spyware, pop-ups etc...
It's not without it's flaws, but works well for me.

I also use Adaware, and Spybot Search and Destroy.

H.

the google app gives an option to choose :
1) Advanced - gathers info
choose=<disabled>
2) make it default search engine
choose=<uncheck>

i like it too. its ez'r than anything else to use. just 2 options. but i won't knock the others like zonealarm or popupkiller either :)
