poppet vaulve?????

I have a 1974 merc 650 w/ thunderbolt ignition. i was wondering if theres a poppet vaulve on it and if so were. Im not getting anything out of the pee hole what could that be ? the pee holes are just above the prop right? and is there a thermostat on that motor/ any help would be great One more thing if its not peeing out the pee holes could it be the water pump? thanks

That motor does not have a poppit valve nor a thermostat. The telltales clog easily.

Run the motor on the flush device. If water comes out the grates above the antiventilation plate, the pump is working. If it has been a while since the waterpump was rebuilt, or you do not know when it was done, rebuild it.

what is the antivbration plate anywheres near the fin? werer is the pump ? in the bottom end? thanks pertty new to boating and wahnt to know what things are. thanks

Sounds like you need a manual. The water pick-ups are just above the props and the pee-hole should be on the upper part of your outboard. If its not peeing it definately sounds like you need to replace the water-pump. The water-pump is on the top of your lower unit inside the housing.

The antiventilation plate is the flat plate above the prop. The water outlet grates are just above it. The water intakes are just above prop and just below AV plate.
