popping from carb.

I have a 1976 i/o and when I throttle up I get a popping from the carb. can anyone tell me what this is from

Could be lots of things. Like not getting enough spark. Mine did it when the resistor wire went bad. You need to do some troubleshooting on your IGN system.

More than likely the accelerator pump in the carb is worn, quite a simple fix with a carb kit and a good clean whilst you have the card apart.

That could well be a fueling issue as well, but IMO it's best to start with a known and work from their. Stumbling, pooping in the carb when throttling up would more than likely be the accelerator pump worn and not working (a lean condition). Fix this with a carb kit along with cleaning the carb and set up as per spec. If the shifting problem still happens, then look at the shift cable adjustments and interrupter switch.

HAd the same issue recently. Got the carb kit - MCM 1389-9654, cleaned it throughly, that means taking everything out, jets, Idle mixture screw, needle and seed, all fo it, spray it, blow it out and do it again. I put mine back together and it runs like a champ. I also added a in-line fuel filter just out of the tank as alot of people here in the northeast are dealing with the ethanol issues - which is probably what caused your accelerator pump to go bad.

There were more than just a few I/Os in '76....
