Hello Everyone and thanks for all the help I have recieved from I boats so far.

Okay... 1991 200hp Mariner on a 230 proline.

The boat idles fine and runs up on plane fine. After I leave the no wake zone and give it gas temp rises and alarm goes on for about 10 seconds Then temp drops back down and alarm stops.

When I come off plane and go 5-10 mph the temp creeps back up and alarm goes on.

Increasing or decreasing speed brings the temp back to normal.

This boat is new to me. P/O said impeller was not changed in two years so I know I will need a new one. But if it is the poppit then I can change it now and keep her in the water for another month.

So poppit or impeller.. what do you think?

Normally if the engine heats up at low speed it's the imp. and if it heats at high speed the popit is not working right but in your case with the heat at the lower part of mid range it could be the pump is not developing enough pressure to open the popit or the popit is sticking. Rather than ruin 2 week ends I would do both, neither is a real expencive job

We could ad stats to that. Since it is a V engine, it has 2 and at least one could be bad....either would raise the temp and sound the alarm.

I bought a 3 cyl 90 hp a couple of years ago that was 3 years old. First time out I had a similar problem and it turned out to be frozen shut stat. Impeller on the engine had been changed within the year and at idle my pee shoots about 2" into the water.

Testing in a pan of water verified the problem. Replacing the stat solved it.
