Portable garages

Decided I want a portable garage for our Chaparral. I can put it up out in the corner of the storage lot at the boat harbor, and use the storage area fence to help anchor the thing. I'm going to need 30' long minimum.

Far as I can tell most look to be relatively the same as the next. Most 30'ers I've found are 10' tall with an 8' tall opening, and IIRC, the top of my windshield is 9'-2" off the ground...

Haven't done a ton of searching yet, but the best bang for the buck I can find so far is a "Rhino Shelter", which is 14' wide x 12' tall x 30' long-- $1199 with a 2 year warrantee, or $400 more for a 5 year warrantee.. FWIW, I've found some garages for more money and only a 1 year warrantee--

Anyway- anyone with some real world experience and/or suggestions welcome! :)

Re: Portable garages

I keep my boat under an el-cheapo metal frame and tarp type shelter, 12ft.X20ft...Cost about $150 at Northern Tool or Harbor Freight...about 2 or 3 years and I have to replace the polypropylene tarp which is degraded by the UV/sunlight....also these tarp shelters don't do great in high wind or wet snow conditions....but overall it seems to be just O.K.....for the money!....a real shed with treated posts and metal roof would be nice, but I hate to spend the $$$$....

Re: Portable garages

Your weather's too rough for the Rhino Shelter.

You'd do better to have one of those prefab carports put in, like at carports.com.

You can custom design them with different sidewall heights to exactly fit your application. They're really a value for what you get. And they can also be moved from place to place in pieces.

Re: Portable garages

According to Google SLC gets 63" of snow per year (avg). We get 58".

I have a tarp and tube set up that has grown into a heavy duty square tube frame and HD tarp over the 10 years of ownership. Yes it's been trashed by winds several times.

Short term a tarp set up will work, long term look for metal shed or Quonset hut type cover.
