i have had both, i like the attwood better the moehler has a ridge in side for the extra 1/2 gallon and you have to lift and tilt it to use it

I believe that's on purpose MH. Its sort of a reserve .Could be wrong but on my 12 gallon moeller that's what it is.I have both a attwood and moeller 12 gal tanksand their both fine .The moeller is a low profile and the attwood is normal and they compliment each other perfectly.

I don't know if these plastic gas (6 gallon) tanks are like the one i bought from Walmart or not. With about a gallon and a half of gas, its flat as a pancake in the cool of the morning and blows up like a balloon in the heat of the day. It is sitting in my shed when not in my boat. My other tank is a factory metal 6 gallon one, and works perfect. :)

thats due to the vent being closed

You will be waiting a year or two for your gas to evaporate.Mine is always opened all the time and is only closed during transport.

Could there be an issue with the gas attracting moisture in a gas tank with the vent open all the time? I would think not if the gas was used in a short period of time but how long before it could become a problem?

I rebuilt my leaky 6 gallon omc metal gas tank. I now have two omc metal gas tanks, i'll keep the plastic tank as an extra and fill it if i decide to take a longer trip on my boat. Until then it will stay empty :)

Stop worrying about fuel evaporation or attracting water. Leave the vent open and keep the tank out of the sun. It simply is not a problem.

This is the best advice - Really nothing more than using common sense.
