Anyone know of a portable heater you can use in an automobile?
This would be for a full size Dodge cargo van.
It sure gets cold in the back with no insulation in it.
The heater does good, but just to large an area to keep warm.
Any ideas or heaters you know of?
Thanks.

Re: Portable heaters

A friend of mine that sets up mobile homes has a big step van. He uses one of those 20# propane tanks with a infrared heater that attaches to it. Seems to keep it nice and toasty on the road.

Re: Portable heaters

The only things that come to mind are a rooftop heater for a small rv, or a proheat system for a semi.

This one is for 110 sq feet, they make bigger ones.

But a rooftop heater/AC unit will give you year round comfort.

Re: Portable heaters

Since your cargo is somewhat flammable I would recommend installing one of these. "http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10101/s-10101/p-100000183838/mediaCode-ZX/appId-100000183838/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000183838"

Re: Portable heaters

i used a aux. rv heater in my last van. got it at my local rv dealer.... just a blackbox w/ a heater core in it plumbed into the coolin system...... worked real good in two different vans... though i will admit. i insulated the inside and then put panaling over it.... looked nice......

i'm on my 4th service van.... get the new body style chevyvan next time.... wow. the factory heaters have really improved.... it don't need an aux. heater in it... and i got the safety cage (with holes in it) to that seperates the cab from the back....still gets toasty in the back.....

Re: Portable heaters

I solved the problem since I don't have to work in the back.
I put up a fancy sliding curtain.
Just slide her shut and all the heat stays up front.
Works well.
Thanks all.

Re: Portable heaters

Yea, I have one in an old ford van that I use to camp in.
The trouble is I use all the floor space and it would be in the way.
The curtain serves the purpose and hung up by 50# big game, you can't even see how it's hanging. :)
