Alright this thing is getting on my nerves.Buying rebuild kit for fuel pump and carb friday. If I'm going in the rightway let me know.New plugs, firm bulb, cleaned carb not rebuilt, new plugs, new gas, good compression, good spark.Boat has old Morse 2 lever controls, with the throttle all the way on in the starting position,no choke,it will fire up rev up high like it should then die.The bulb seems to stay hard,it has to be the fuel though, right? Is there anything else I'm missing?I hope the rebuild will fix this. Yes the plugs are right they are labeled from omc top bottom with the plug #.

to check your fuel pump when it starts squeeze your primer bulb a few times. This overrides the fuel pump. If it keeps running then your fuel pump is bad, it should keep running as long as you are squeezing the primer bulb, if you quit and it dies then rebuild your fuel pump. It sounds like you have float in the carb sticking and it is running out of gas. Are all your fuel connections tight from the tank up? If you have an air leak it will do the same thing. Is your gasket new behind the carb?

I did try to squeeze the bulb and it stayed running for a few seconds longer one or two times.Another time I had it where it would run with the choke on and the throttle in the start position and it would stay running. The story on the boat is that it has been sitting for 4 or 5 years and ran when it was hung up in the boathouse.I moved on the st johns river and got it from my neighbor, now it's in my boathouse. All the old man wants is a ride in it before he dies he said.I'm buying the rebuild kits today and I'm hoping it is going to be one or the other.Everything is there to run but it has to be the fuel.I took apart the fuel pump and everything seemed ok,good gaskets and springs, nothing broke,b ut I dont know. The gasket is the old one on the carb right now until I get the kit.

If you had it running with the choke on then you didn't take the carb all the way apart, soak it overnight, and blow everything out with your compressor. You missed some stuff in it. Make sure you don't have an air leak somewhere. It almost has to be one of those two.

Many of us "have been doing this since we were a kid" :)

Anyway, since this motor has been sitting for 4 or 5 years, the carb probably needs a good cleaning. Don't rush through it, or you'll be doing it again.
Instructions here: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=244013

Then adjust it: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=167352

Check to make sure that you are getting spark on both cylinders.

The water pump impeller needs replacing, since it had probably been 5 years since it was last done.

Re: Pos 35 evinrude

thank's for all the info,I'm buying the rebuild kits today.I did soak the carb, but didn't blow the low speed out.I did invert the carb and blow through it and no air went, turned right side up and air went through it,set the float level with the bowl. Will the motor run at all with the low speed clogged? The pump is pumping water but I will get a new one soon though, just trying to get running. This is a pic of a similar cowling that says it's a 81,not sure how long this design was ran.
