The boat is a 89' Bayliner Arriva with a 5.0 and alpha 1 outdrive. The serial number begins with OC on the outdrive and engine. I rebuilt the outdrive and had a hard time installing it. It turns out i had to drop the front of the engine about 1/2" to get it aligned with an alignment tool. The hull is good and free of rot. Some people said my rear mounts could have bad rubber. Now i look it up on Microfiche and i don't see any rubber rear mounts, just the nylon washer. Was i correct or should this boat have the rear rubber mounts? I hate to reinstall the drive and there is a problem further up the line and it takes out another bearing and gear set.

I rebuilt the outdrive ..............it takes out another bearing and gear set.

I sure hope you bought the special tools for shimming and setting gear heights, or you WILL be replacing them again.

Yes, there is rubber mounts in the flywheel cover of Merc engins.

The rear mount is inside the flywheel housing boss (C)

No, i brought the outdrive in and had a Marine shop rebuild it. Figured by the time i bought the proper tools to do the job, it would have costs the same to have it done. Plus if i did it myself, maybe, just maybe, the second time around i might figure out what i did wrong if i would have done it myself the first time.

Now that i know where the rubber mount is, what can go bad in there? Does the rubber just cushion it from side to side movement? The mounts were pretty tight when i loosened them. Is there anything that could be worn in there causing the motor to drop? If so, how do i tell? Thanks for the response.....

also, are those pretty hard to replace? Could i just remove the bolts and lift the engine a little w/hoist and pound them through? I'd rather spend the extra now then more down the road. My outdrive is not going back in unitl i figure this out. No good though, i was supposed to be on the water this weekend.

Anyone have any .02 on this issue? The outdrive is going back in Thursday morning, has to, the weekend is planned and booked at the resort.
