Hi all,

This past weekend i took my boat out sat and sun. On sat every ran fine. On sunday, however, i guess i had a little bad luck. Everything was going fine until i decided to stop and turned everything off for a moment and enjoy the day. When i tried to turn on my engine through the ignition switch, i noticed that there was no start. I pressed the tilt button and it was dead as well. However, my nav, fishfinder, compass light, horn, vhf all turn on. I did notice that the key is not necessary for all devices to turn on. At first, i thought my battery had died, but i gave it a jump and nothing. So far, i've checked most cables inside the console and they look fine to me. I found 3 cables that had fuses connected and they are good. Also, the fuse that goes from the tilt motor to the engines positive line is good. I managed to turn on the engine by placing a screw driver to the starters negative and positive and the engine ignited just fine. I've only had this boat for three weeks and it already gave me problems. I have a 1992 proline 190 with a 1992 Yamaha 115Q. I'm unable to figure out where this issue is coming from. Tomorrow im thinking of unwrapping all cables and see if theres any other fuses i havent looked at. Has any if you ran into this issue before, or any ideas of what else i should be checking?

I remember back then i used to put the key on ignition, and the fuel meter would activate. now its not doing that.

you have lost the 12v from the motor this is normally protected by a fuse under the cowling and is only used by the engine and tilt system. if the fuse looks good check the connections and the tabs on the fuse for corrosion. not sure about yamaha but on other motors the trim works with out the key so that indicates its the power from the motor to the switch thats lost. fuse should be near the starter solinoid and may even be in a little plastic box.

forgot to welcome you to iboats. if the fuse thats going to the ignition is ok and you can not find the problem then you will need a volt meter or a test probe to find where the problem is

Thank you for the reply! and indeed the issue was with a corroded cable inside a black plastic box. The cable was lose, which was a red cable and that was my problem. wow, because of lack of knowledge that one cable cost me $400 to get towed :p. Thank you Glenn
