Possible prop problem

Just bought a new prop for my 1990 Johnson 120 (spun the old one). Now every time I get the engine to 5400 rpms it feels like the prop is spun again. If I lower the rpm's a little it runs fine. It is also ok on hard accelerations. Do you think the prop is bad or is there a rpm limit on the engine causing it to cut out?

Also, wrote in about a quickstart problem last week. Advice was to change/check the thermostats and diaphragm. Good advice, changed everything and no more problems.

thanks again.

Re: Possible prop problem

You didnt mention what prop you had before or which one you have now. If you had an SST before and now have an aluminum or a Ballistic, your venting could be explained.

Your rev limiter is at either 6200 or 6700 and causes the motor to not rev past that rather than lose bite as you described.

More info please!

Re: Possible prop problem

Sorry, I replaced the original aluminum OMC prop with the same aluminum one from OMC.

I will pull the prop off this week and see if there are any of the typical signs of a spun prop. If none, I will then make some marks on it and check after running it.

Could it be some other engine problem possibly?

Any ideas are appreciated.

Re: Possible prop problem

It would help greatly to know how your speed & rpm behaves during this?
