Possible to over-rev 1971 4HP Johnson? I reset my timing more on the advanced side and not sure if it is my tach, or may be knocking too much water out of the smaller newer barrel I am using. Revs going over 6000. Suspect lack of water resistance, but curious if it is possible to over tune it.

6000 sounds high but I'd lake test it first go get full pressure on the prop with boat weight added. Then go from there.

I will, I was just curious to know if these motors can be poorly tuned which would cause them to rev over 5000. The rating is 4-5K.
