Anyone have success rejuvenating an old boat cover? Water seeps thru. Is there a spray or a conditioner that can re-waterproof a cover? This is a Cabela cover, feels like cotton duck. Thanks.

I've used the spray on stuff from WalMart. Clean the canvas well, completely dry, follow the can instructions.

for a light to medium rain for an hour or two kept everything dry. Really heavy or extended would seep thru somewhat. That was about 4 seasons ago.

I've seen some stuff at Home Depot...maybe a Rustoleum product. It claims to waterproof anything. Might check it out.

I've tried using wash in Nikwax on a newish cover. I used a 60 gallon plastic drum.
Not much success as it turned out spotty. And I can't imagine spaying it on a 22ft cover.

I use 303 Fabric Guard Waterproofer. Its recommended by Sunbrella. Ive used it for a few years now. Every other spring I clean the cover with a mild soap and let it dry good. Then use a garden spray pump to evenly coat the covers. The stuff is about 100 deer per gallon so its not cheap. However it brings the cover back like new.

That is the recommended product and I use it , it holds up for several years. I just bought 2 gallons at 45.00 per gallon.

Re: Possible to Re-Weatherize a Boat Cover?

I need a new cover and would like to buy one that already has water proofing built into it. The sun and hot clod temps of Michigan are tough on any product I've ever seen, bought, or used. I know going cheap will get me exactly what I have now, a wet boat. The cover is a good investment, retreating the cover is also a great idea if you want it to protect your investment. 303 sounds like the winner here.

Back when we had a canvas side pop up camper.

I got a product from a "Do It Center" that was labeled for canvas. Thompsons Water Seal is NOT labeled for canvas.
That product worked good and kept us dry for several years.

Im sure the 303 product is good too. They seem to make some good products for this industry.

Well, I am going to have to try that 303. Seems well endorsed here.

I have used 303 and it worked good. I have also used stuff made for canvas tents i got at Cabellas and it worked just as good for less money. I would guess Iboats has a version of canvas sealant.
