I'm usually on the Outboard forums, but helping my brother inspect a boat he might be buying. It has Twin 7.4 1998 Horizon Straight drive Inboards. Sea Ray 330 Express.

This Boat was not used very much in its last year or two, but was slipped and maintained very well.

We have the full service records by the Marina..Line by line itemized through its history. I know These Engines are fully freshwater cooled. We also know that Manifolds and Risers were done at the end of 2011.

We know that risers should be done around 5years. Does this hold true, if the boat had little hours put on it for 2 of those years?? Seems like it wouldnt matter as it still was in the water, with residual sea-water in those risers.

Curious if he gets this boat, to go-ahead and do the risers as precautionary.

Replacing every 5 to 7 years for salt water would be the recommended, for fresh water I would go longer, look at 10 to 15 years with inspection. That said, I would inspect them for a boat kept in the water at the 10 year mark. Having work done by another maybe just replace at 10
