I had an unfortunate incident hitting a poorly formed road turn corner that had the perfect small slot for a trailer to catch the right tire on.
Needless to say although I was going granny slow through the turn, the boat trailer tire caught that bad spot and the tire/axle loaded up enough resistance that it bent the axle some and the right side of the trailer bounced out of the hole. That's a whole another matter that I've got to fix but won't elaborate on it on this topic.
I had the boat tied down securely with tie down transom straps and the lower unit had the transom saver on it and no damage to outboard visibly, trailer frame escaped damage other than the right fender, and the boat hull appears fine.
However, I suspect the lower trim cylinder swivel plastic bushings got wiped out on my VJ90TLASB because I can pick up the lower unit and rock it up and down getting about an 1/8 inch of play at the trim cylinder pivot pin area. I don't remember that being there.
The trim and tilt system does appear to function normally going up and down,
What has to be removed in order to access the cylinder trim lower bushings? Can you just tilt the motor up and put the lock arm and just remove the lower bolts and push the trim cylinder pin out and place new bushings in or does the entire trim unit have to be removed? Anything to special to look out for other than a shaft pin that might give the signs of being bent?
Another problem is that I'm not sure about is what is the proper amount of play for the swivel bracket to know if the plastic bushings are still intact or damaged.
If they are damaged, how much stuff has to be removed for that, just the powerhead, lower unit, and steering cable or more? The service manual makes it sound like even to replace those bushings, the exhaust housing has to come off.
