I have a 1997 9.9 Electric start, four stroke Evinrude engine (model E10FRELEVA) that arrived in my hands w/o controls. With respect to post '96 controls, does one size fit all; or to put it differently, can I use the controls from any post '96 Evinrude (25hp, 40hp, 150hp, etc) or must the controls be matched somehow in size to the engine -- or for that matter, to whether the engine is two v. four stroke?
By 'controls' I mean the electrical connections as well as the throttle and gear shift. (Since my 9.9 doesn't have electric trim, I assume the trim wires coming from the controller would just lie fallow.)
Under the cover, my engine sports a six conductor socket in which each conductor/pin is used. Also present, a six conductor plug, on which four conductor/pins are used. I think the FSM refers to the plug as the "instrument harness".
Thanks for any help.
