Ok, the new motor has been in for a bout 3 weeks. The weather here has been crappy so the only running I have been doing is at the dock. Today I went down and started the new motor and it fired right up. After about 10 minutes of running I lifted the engine hatch to look, listen and smell for any problems. I noticed on the port side I had a hint of white smoke (no odor) coming up between the exhaust riser and the valve cover. I checked for any obvious leaks and found none. I had no tools with me so a full diagnosis was not possible. I plan on going down tomorrow and re-torquing the exhaust manifolds and risers. Also I felt the lower end of the block around the oil sending unit and that area and it is not wet. Exhaust leaking?

Also, I have noticed a little sheen on the water everytime I start the new motor. From what I read on here the carb may be set too rich? No smoke. Any ideas on that? Again thanks in advance.

The motor is a 5.7 4bbl 270hp non-vortec motor.

Don't see white smoke coming from the exhaust unless water is getting in, and then that would be two problems; water getting in, and exhaust leaking. Pull the oil fill cap and see if anything starts belching out

A little oil on the water is meaningless with a new unbroken in motor. Have to load it up for a bit to seat rings.

could just be a bit of blowby coming out the breather vents in the valve covers. this will happen until the rings seat
