Maybe someone can help me here, I tried to write directly to Iboats and never received a reply. What are the policies concerning posting a link to helpful web sites or to anywhere else for that matter. I read through the FAQ’s and Forums Help and didn’t notice any guidelines, maybe I’m not looking in the right place? I posted links before, (Never to any of Iboats competitors out of common courtesy unless someone asked specifically) and never had this happen. The posting was to a new boater who bought his first boat and I suggested he take a safety course and gave him a link to a few government websites that offer them free if you don’t take the final exam. My message was edited with the message; Referral only, no direct linking. [April 04, 2006, 10:13 AM: Message edited by: SBN ] Thanks in advance for any help.

Dave

Re: Posting Question

Is there a black van parked outside your home - that's them, watching ;) .

You can type the name of the website, but don't 'link' it. It's got something to do with........ I'm not sure. Just type the web address ie: iboats dot com.

There is a user agreement in the 'profile' page.

Re: Posting Question

The rule is no direct link to any "commercial" sites. Basically, if you can buy something there, you can't link to it. Has to do with the way the sites are ranked. If you want to link to a news story for example, rock on. If you want to link to Amazon for a recommended Michael Moore book on Bush's covert attempts to end underwater basket weaving, use the amazon dot com method as that would be a commercial site link even though it is not directly competitive.

I think Spinner's van is kinda copperish meta-flake ;)

Re: Posting Question

AB, we ask that you do not link to sites that are commercial or competitive. Helpful links are always welcome.

Thanks for asking.

Re: Posting Question

AB, we struggle with this all the time.
Do we or not allow them.
I asked and was told that no direct linking was allowed, just refferals only and that is why I edited your post.

Re: Posting Question

This is a difficult one. Our original intent was to prevent search engines from compiling high link numbers for competitors but not to prevent members access to those competitors.

So, no links to competitors sounded good until we tried to define who/what is a competitor.

To avoid endless threads about whether Joe's Marine is or is not a competitor we decided to limit all commercial sites. . . that sell or advertise anything. . . to referrals only. It does not limit anyone's access, it simply requires them to address the site to get on, rather than click on a link.

Many very helpful sites sell or advertise nothing, and direct links to them are encouraged.

Hope that clarifies the policy.

Re: Posting Question

Sometimes links are killed when they don't even sell anything ie parody links about false products. Confusing subject for sure.

Yeah, there's a lot of controversial stuff south of here . . .

Edited by SBN: This post is NOT concerning a Caravelle, it is a Chapparal. Please post to the appropriate fora heading. :p :p :p

Don't forget, SBN has a bunch of alien buddies working for him also. They don't drive, but can be invisible hovering over your house in there spacecraft. You just never know when, and if you did, you wouldn't know it.

Re: Posting Question

There are three vans parked in front of my place but only two are black. The other one is kind of an off green. I hate them.
