Looking at a 2000 24' Maxum bowrider 2300 SR. Termite droppings are found all over the place, boat is in high and dry on racks, don't know if the racks are made of wood and falling down? Did not see any termites or damage from them or wings. How much wood is structural in a Maxum? Should I be worried if the price is right?

Re: Potential Purchase - Termites

Pinellas county is a termite haven. If there are pellets in the boat, then I can say with 99% certainty that there are drywood termites in there. If the pellets are in tight piles, then my certainty goes to 100%. If it was from the hi 'n dry, you probably wouldn't have seen the pellets, as they are so small, that the higher they fall from, the less likely they will land and stay in the same spot. One a side note, the pest companies will tent and fume your boat for you, and probably wouldn't be that expensive. It's based on cubic footage. Oh, and along with being pest certified in multiple states, I used to work for the big T.

Thanks for the input Beefer. There are pellets in the metal insert in the fiberglass floor that the table goes into, I would think they would have to fall into it? When you lift the engine cowling there is a fiberglass lip, must be 1/4" thick all the way around.

hmmmmm... on the conservative side...I would STOP looking at that boat.....even if they fumigate it....dead bugs on my boat.... I don't think so.....the rebuild from the damage they caused will be nasty enough, without the dead critters in the mix... :D

Maxum used alot of 1/2" plywood as backing for things, don't know how much wood was used structurely. I didn't notice any wood damage in the plywood but I guess if the middle is eaten out it might still look good on the outside.
See my other concern in the Mercruiser section - Potential Purchase.
