Potential Purchase

Looking at a 2000 Maxum with a 350 MAG MPI Mercrusier I/O. Motor was replaced in 2008. Problem is I see rust around the bottom of the oil filter and dip stick has rust on it, there was maybe a 1/2" of oil showing on the dip stick after the sea trial (looked a bit thick). I wondered if the filter was original, salesman said original was black so it must have been replaced at one time. Salesman also said dip stick rust is common on a boat that sits. Boat has seen very little use over the past 2 years. Do I run? Do I run a comp check and run new oil and filter for a short time and repeat and hope it's all good? I would be getting a very good price on the boat but is it worth the risk? Oil pressure seemed good on the gauge but don't recall the number.

Ya but was it between Add,+ Full,..??

Boats that sit in saltwater Rust,... It's probably surface rust that could be cleaned,+ painted...

A thorough Inspection should be done on it..

I would be getting a very good price on the boat but is it worth the risk?

The rust was on the inside, on the dipstick.

Ayuh,... Is it Still a Good price when you figure in the potential $2500. for another motor...
Atleast do a compression test...test drive,, etc...

Did the sea trail all ready, ran good.
I have been w/o a boat for almost a year now so....
Problem is a boat this size with this hp is normally way out of my price range, this one is within reach.
This motor was put in new in 2008, factory motor.
