I'm looking at a potential relocation to the Mesa, AZ area. Are there good boating options in the area? We have a 23' Monterey and three young kids, so we mainly tube and swim.

Define "good boating options"
I spend every March in South Scottsdale/N Tempe, so basically Mesa area. Yes, I see boats in driveways occasionally. No, I don't see much water nearby.
I'm from Washington so I probably have a different view of what constitutes "good boating" :)

I'm from KS, so I'm not picky.:) Good boating is reasonably clean, not cold, not dangerously busy, coves to relax. I'm pretty easy to please.

Boating is great there and living in Mesa gets you closer to it. I lived there for 13 years and enjoyed these lakes and others further away.

Boating in az is great. Check out Bartlett, saguaro and canyon lakes which are nearby. All of them very beautiful. pleasant is great but gets very busy on the weekends. My favorite of all az lakes is apache. It's a bit of a drive and you have to trailer on a dirt road which scares people. There's hardly ever anybody on the water. If you want to drive even further theres the Colorado river lakes. Powell is obviously famous for its beauty, mead for its size, havasu for partying bit my favorite is Mohave. There are infinite number of amazing secluded coves with nice sandy beaches and crystal clear water. It's a big lake so wind can blow up pretty big chop but there's so many coves you can usually escape it. And it's right near Laughlin so after a day on the lake it's nice to eat some din and play a little craps( if that's your thing)
There's a bunch of smaller lakes too but most have horsepower restriction of 10hp. In my option ifs Worth it to pick up a little aluminum boat just to hit these lakes. Blue ridge reservoir is awesome to load up the john boat and go camp out of it for the night. A fav activity of many father/ sons.
If you buy a jet boat the lower Colorado river has some amazing spots to go hauling through cattail trails which is always fun.
And that's about it. Arizona boating. All this talk I think in gonna go hook up and head to the lake for a day

Awesome, thanks! I drove out to Saguaro last Friday, beautiful! What about Theodore Roosevelt? Do any of the lakes on the E side of town get super busy?

Canyon gets packed on holiday weekends and lots of rentals(STAY AWAY ON THOSE WEEKENDS). Saguaro limits the amount of boats on so you need to get there by 8-830 on busy weekends to get in. Kind of nice since most go to back sandy beach to party leaving most of the lake to yourself for wakeboarding, tubing and stuff. Never had any issues with bad drivers or nutty jet ski drivers at Saguaro. Many instances of jet ski issues at Canyon and tubing my kids. Pleasant is fun and very large, busy on weekends with party goers and they always have a dui checkpoint leaving that lake to keep the roads safe.
