I've been looking for a older grady 19' tournament. I know minimum power is usually 150hp. considering picking up one without a motor and a have a chance to pick up a 140 hp. its only 10 hp less but I think the difference will feel like a lot more going from a v6 to a v4. anyone out there have any opinions? I can get the motor cheap from a friend. he rebuilt it several years ago, used it for a year, then stepped up to a 200hp. its a 1976 motor with power trim/tilt. thanks.

not sure, I don't actually have the boat, but I know they typically came new with nothing smaller than a 150. I've seen them with 175. I have a 140 on my 205 sportcraft WAC which weighs about 600# more and it is underpowered.

Depending on year of 140 it may be crankshaft rated which would make it a 115 at prop...

Something is not right-the 140 crossflow first appeared in the 1977 model year-not 1976. It was a 99.6 cubic inch engine. A V6 150 crossflow is 149 cubic inches-50% larger displacement. Cubic inches tells you a lot about the torque the engine makes. You'd be unhappy with a 99 cubic inch engine on a boat rated for a (160 cubic inch) 235 hp. You'd find it constantly running WOT in order to make even reasonable planing speed-a real fuel killer. The newer big bore loopers are 183 cubic inches-probably more suited to that size boat.
