Hi Guys,

Here is the info. 1977' 16' Sidewinder-1983 150 V6 Johnson- 23 pitch prop(to much)

Max speed i achieve 50MPH, But I think that my rpm is way to low maybe 4000?

The prop is way to much pitch. Here is my problem, I am assuming that I am at to low of RPM already. The boat will seem to lose power after about 10 second of WOT. If you hit the primer button it jumps back and so on.

Running out of fuel? It never sounds lean (ie. engine damage) it just seem to lose power. Never dies but seems to lose 25% maybe and once you hit that primer it comes back.

So assuming its over pitched it would be running very rich at WOT. So why does it seem to perk up with a shot of fuel.

And it starts like a dog to .

Thanks for any insite

Re: Power / Fuel / Pitch

Too much assuming, Sled. Not enough measuring.

Lugging the engine (if that is what is happening) will not cause it to run lean.

Get a tach on it so you know what is really happening. Also need a gps to measure mph. Pitot speedos are terribly inaccurate.

You may have one or two carbs partially gummed and the primer covers for them temporarily. Might also be a fuel pump not keeping up with consumption.

First thought is that a 23" prop moving you at 50mph does not compute to 4Krpm or to being overpropped.

Measure that stuff and let us know.

Ok,

Three feet of ice should melt soon, right? We don't have ice props available in the Yukon yet. I've heard goods things about them though.

50mph was on GPS, fuel pumps not keeping up would be a good possibility.

Still snow on ground here.........wait, wait, wait.

I'll go shovel the snow off the cover and sit in the boat maybe.

After the issues with the big 150 I put my 1969 115 Johnson on the boat with a 17 pitchSS prop. It will push the boat to 47.1MPH on GPS with just me and no other weight. 42MPH with 2 people and gear.

Wish the lakes would melt.

Thanks.
