Help! I have a 1981 75hp Evinrude, fuel is leaking from the intake side of the power head and dripping off the bottom side of the intake manifold. Does any ideas where it's coming from.

Re: Power Head Fuel Leak

alot of possibilities here.
does the engine run ok? if so check fuel lines, fuel pump etc.
if its not running well it could be junk in the carb/carbs making the float stick open.
how much is leaking?
spray, drip, just wet??

Re: Power Head Fuel Leak

All three carbs just receintly rebuilt, wot runs great, idle rpm has to be set around 900-950 in gear un-restricted in the lake or it will die, as far as the leaking fuel it is a drip, it is dripping from the bottom where the two crankcase haves mate up off of the lower crank seal.

Re: Power Head Fuel Leak

sounds like your rpm at idle is a little high.

does it leak when its running only or after it is shut off?

you could check for a loose carb screw and or missing or damaged intake gasket.
a bad gasket may drip a little after shutting it off.

Re: Power Head Fuel Leak

I discovered that the fuel appears to be leaking from the lower Crank Shaft seal area. I pulled the lower unit off a couple of weeks ago to replace the impeller, is it possible that I damaged the Lower Crank Shaft seal when I removed or replaced the lower unit. The lower unit separated from the top end without any problems and the same is true when I put it back on to the top end. I need some advice before pulling the power head to get to the lower crank shaft seal.
